The title of the Sundown Press/Prairie Rose Publications release is STAGECOACH JUSTICE, but the truth is Mary Fields, the protagonist, was willing to take justice any way she could get it. She could fight, shoot, drink whiskey, smoke cigars, and hitch a team better than any man in Montana Territory, white or colored. Why should she be treated as less than anyone, especially after Mr. Lincoln had his say? Her “crass behavior” provided the spirit of change that fueled the early women’s rights movement. If Mary Fields had the right to sit in a saloon, drink whiskey, curse, fight, and do whatever else she pleased, why shouldn’t other women be allowed to do the same? We didn’t know it at the time, but this logic touched off an avalanche of protests for women’s rights called the women’s suffrage movement. This book involves plenty of action, including chapters on winter wolf attacks and baseball.
